05/22/19 — New York singer-songwriter Laura Stevenson’s latest album The Big Freeze is one of her best, covering difficult topics and showing vulnerability in a way that feels open and self assured. Her set at the Sinclair this May showcased the energy and emotion of her music wonderfully, and despite the at-times dark subject matter of Stevenson’s songs, there was a pervasive sense of comfort and warmth throughout the show. Stevenson has both a friendly, conversational stage presence, and a powerful voice that carried her through a set of both solo acoustic performances and full-on rock songs backed by her band. She’ll be back at the Sinclair later this month, opening for Craig Finn and the Uptown Controllers.
