Our good buddies Gymshorts were a late-ish addition to his gig. They did a short but sour set of all their biggest classics including “Copycat” and “Ding Dong Ditch”. It’s always nice to see them, even if its only for 20 minutes. The second band Uniform started with a minute or so of modulator drone which evolved into a full fledged noise punk song. As they continued I noticed the facial expressions on a number of the Sinclair staff members. I could tell that they are probably not huge fans of noise rock. I however thought they were pretty sick. After I consulted Uniform I found out that one of the dudes, Ben Greenberg used to be in The Men. I recognized Ben from when I saw him playing with The Men (when they opened for Metz 4 years ago)! The other guy in Uniform, Michael Berden comes from more of a hardcore background. Uniform consisted of screaming, pulsating guitar and other loud noises.
Metz was as brutal as usual. When it comes to Metz brutal is a compliment. Metz has also been affectionately referred to as “pigfuck” That term has been used on older bands such as the Butthole Surfers and Big Black. I find Metz to be a little more straight up punk than Big Black and much less weird than the Butthole Surfers though. Metz have a cool new album out called Strange Peace which they featured a number of songs from. There wasn’t as much of a pit as I was expecting because the place was maybe half full. I was hoping more people would come out on a monday night to see these awesome bands.
