DECADENT BANALITY: A RETROSPECTIVE OF THE LOCAL , a pop-up show of prints, photos, performance and more was curated by Elaine Sun and Haillie Gluk. The show featured work from over a dozen local artists in the lounge of the Tufts University Crafts House, an on-campus space that is always full of creativity. The artists are primarily current students and alumni of the Tufts/SMFA Combined degree program. Sun says she got the idea for the show from a conversation about the lack of spaces at Tufts where students can show their work, so she organized the art event takeover of what is normally a living space.
I stopped by early on in the event before it was in full swing, but Coorain Devin kindly did his performance piece early for me. Devin recently started a reality TV show, Coloring Coorain, exploring the complicated balancing act of his life as an emerging artist and was signing photos with lipstick kisses for his adoring fans.
Lizz Card snapped some great shots of the event once it really got going.
