TODAY Friday May 5, the final NOMAS Power Lunch Roundtable will be held at the MIT Architecture Department’s Long Lounge (Room 7-429) at 12:00 pm.
This event will feature members of QSPACE, a queer architectural research organization, Duygu Demir, Lucy Liu, and Jess Myers. Lunch will be provided.
This final NOMAS Power Lunch Roundtable will be moderated by MIT Architecture graduate students Emily Watlington and Stephanie Lee.
Watlington and Lee will begin the conversation by asking the guests to speak about their work and how they see politics as part of their practice. In addition, the guests will be asked about what obstacles they face when they politicize their work. The moderators will ask the guests if they have any figures in their field who they see as good models of politicized practices.
Near the end of the conversation, the moderators will ask the roundtable guests to share their thoughts on the relationship between taking an overt political stance in their work and maintaining poetic subtleties in their work.
In this political climate, maintaining a sense of nuance and poetry in any practice may seem frivolous. Hopefully, the conversation that comes out of this Power Lunch Roundtable will be able to delineate the ways that architecture can and does refrain from becoming another force in capitalism’s push for productivity over beauty.
The Final NOMAS Power Lunch Roundtable will be held TODAY at 12:00 pm in the Long Lounge (Room 7-429) at MIT’s Architecture Department.
