This Week In Experimental: Volume 60

by

Hello Experimenters!

We’re on the second and final week of the Summer 2021 2 Week Film Challenge! It’s been really exciting to see progress stills and hear from you on Discord about your projects and about other things. Looking forward to engaging with more of you as time goes by.

In solidarity,

Gabby

Things to Do

Assignment: This month, I challenge all of you to make a film in two weeks. Your goal should be to make something you can submit to festivals/open calls in two weeks. This is the second & final week of the challenge! It’s time to edit what you collected last week. If you’re feeling isolated from other experimental people, I decided to make us a Discord server! Use it to share some progress or vent your frustrations.

Journal: For Pride Month, we’re writing letters. Each Pride Monday, I’m going to ask you to write a letter to someone. That person can be living or dead, real or fictional. You don’t have to share this letter in any way, but obviously if you feel brave and open go for it. I want to leave you with the quote that inspired me to share this: “Letter writing is transformative. Letter writing is harm reduction” – Red, Survived & Punished

4) We are fast approaching the anniversary of The Stonewall Uprising, the reason we celebrate Pride in June in the states. Write to a young queer and/or trans person (or some far off queer and/or trans person not yet born) and explain the Uprising, its importance, and how it changed the world–this may require some research.
