This Week In Experimental: Volume 59

by

Hello Experimenters!

Thanks for waiting for another Tuesday release. I was AFK this weekend enjoying Cape Cod for the first time despite having lived in Massachusetts since 2013. It was even more magical than I could have guessed. What magic have you encountered lately?

In solidarity,

Gabby

Things to Do

Assignment: This month, I challenge all of you to make a film in two weeks. Your goal should be to make something you can submit to festivals/open calls in two weeks. Welcome to the official start of the 2 Week Film Challenge! Use this week to collect media (video, film, images, sound, etc). If you’re feeling isolated from other experimental people, I decided to make us a Discord server! Use it to share some progress stills or vent your frustrations.

Journal: For Pride Month, we’re writing letters. Each Pride Monday, I’m going to ask you to write a letter to someone. That person can be living or dead, real or fictional. You don’t have to share this letter in any way, but obviously if you feel brave and open go for it. I want to leave you with the quote that inspired me to share this: “Letter writing is transformative. Letter writing is harm reduction” – Red, Survived & Punished

3) Write to a queer artist who shaped your practice. Don’t get hung up on disciplines or approaches. Think about inspiration, perspective, and provocation.
