REVIEW: THE ROVER (2014) DIR. DAVID MICHÔD @KENDALL

by

The world’s gone to shit, everybody needs reliable transportation and a sweaty Guy Pearce is really, really, REALLY pissed. Filmmaker David Michôd has released his sophomore film, THE ROVER, following the impeccably crafted ANIMAL KINGDOM (2010) and it’s anything but a slump. In the near future the global economy has totally collapsed and the world has regressed into a lawless, brutal way of life. Eric (Pearce) is an angry loner trying to survive in the desolate Australian outback. So when his car and only means of travel is stolen by a violent gang, it’s safe to say he’s a little peeved and wants it back. Luckily for him, the brother of the gang’s leader, Rey (Robert Pattinson), is injured in the robbery and left behind for dead. Eric takes him hostage and “persuades” Rey to find his brother and his car. Thus begins THE ROVER — a dark odyssey through the desert landscape where physical, psychological and emotional scars are bound to be formed.
