The Flea Bite: June Edition

A New England Market Digest and your guide to buying local in the month of June

June is getting this motor running and the fairs are starting! Get your pocketbook out and buy local at all of these opportunities

June 9th: Black Market Flea: Pride Riot in Cambridge

You heard me right: it’s pride month, and Black Market Flea is back! For the wonderful month of June, those wonderful people will be bringing the Pride Riot, a non-corporate market focused taking the pride celebration back to its roots. From Sophia, one of the organizers: “I don’t know about you, but corporate-sponsored pride parades don’t do it for me. Black Market Flea is always for the DIY-or-die-hards who want a space to share their work without corporate or police-sanctioned nonsense. This one, this June, is especially for those of us who are LQBTQ+ and remember that the first pride was a riot. Be gay, do art, buy some weird shit.”

The market gave priority to  LGBTQ+ vendors so there’s bound to be a lot of awesome stuff this go around. I wouldn’t sleep on this one!

June Calendar:

What more can be said?

June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30: The Providence Flea in downtown Providence, RI

The Providence Flea takes place every Sunday . It will be happening outdoors through September (except for Sept. 15 due to a conflicting city marathon from 10 am – 4 pm.) It takes place across from 345 South Water St, Providence RI 02903 and looks like a straight up party.

June 8th: Black Market Flea: Pride Riot

See above blurb and don’t miss it!

June 1st: Cambridge Arts River Festival

New England Open Markets is running this and they’re exceedingly hard to contact to get details but what I could find indicates that:

“Join us for the 40th Annual Cambridge Arts River Festival in the heart of Cambridge in the Central Square Cultural District on Saturday, June from 11a to 6p. For four decades, the free festival has brought our community together in a celebration of our arts, foods and rich diversity. Boston Magazine named it the area’s best arts festival in 2017 and 2018.

As always, the 2019 Cambridge Arts River Festival will offer food, arts, crafts, immersive art experiences and multiple stages of live music, dance, poetry and theater.”

Thanks everyone! Check back in throughout the month as this Market Season really gets into the swing of things and I’ll be updating if anything pops up! Also get ready in July for the Pear Square Art Fair and the JP Flea returns!
