Today 6/1, 12-6pm
TODAY South Boston opens its doors to share the hive of creativity dwelling within. Wander through three dynamic spaces, which play host to dozens of artists, galleries and small businesses. Rummage the infamous Distillery with four floors of mixed media, painting, installation, new media and sound design, to name a few. In addition, they house not one, but three, gallery spaces: the Distillery Gallery, Proof Gallery and the Thomas Young Gallery. Don’t miss Nicky Digital @the Thomas Young Gallery, located on the fourth floor.
Head down 2nd Street to see the photographic work of Irina Rozovsky, Cassandra Giraldo and Todd Danforth at Boston’s new gallery for contemporary photography, @555 Gallery. Their current exhibition Cultural (Divide) illustrates societal rivets that exist with images of the inaccessible island of Cuba, to a punk counterculture group in Russia to the flawed but deeply connected family in New England. Definitely a must see.
With energy left, keep down 2nd Street and you’ll find King Terminal, a 250.000 sq foot treasure trove, home to dozens of small creative businesses such as the creative folks of Studio Fresh and AntiDesign. These two design studios bless businesses around New England with their unique and beautiful logo designs and wall murals. Come down and meet the brains behind the paint.
Make a day of it and find out why Southie continues to produce some of Boston’s best and brightest.
