I’m Sally. I sing in SECRET LOVER. We were going to do this list together, but the boys can’t remember anything. So here are some things that I liked in 2014:
TOURING – Secret Lover went on three tours this year, and everything went wrong on the last one. We got stranded in Northampton until those sweethearts THE LENTILS gave us a place to stay in Brattleboro, VT. Cops broke up our show mid-set in Philly. We busted the wheel of our van. Bassman Lars partied too hard on his bday in Buffalo and barfed the whole ride home. The Gods of Order and Ease frowned upon us but the Gods of Fun showered us with their sweet, sweet love.
(Also, listen to Buffalo’s Max Weiss a.k.a WAX MICE. He is the basement’s answer to Tom Jones.)
UM THE TRACEY TRANCE SHOW WITH THE GUERRILLA DUMP BETTY PERFORMANCE – I went to see TRACEY TRANCE play at a house in Allston. It was so beautiful and inspiring. THEN, instead of the scheduled last performance, this lady (DUMP BETTY) put on her tape and started playing. Total usurper style. If my dad were at the show he would say she had “chutzpah.”
THE DISTANT CASTLE SHOW THAT ALL TOURING BANDS DROPPED OUT OF – In September I booked a show at my house Distant Castle. There were supposed to be two touring bands and BOTH bands dropped out last minute. We had the show anyway. There were about 15 people there, but the vibe soared to alpine heights. Joe Degeorge played as SAX MACHINE. The performance was so transcendentally spectacular, the crowd lifted him onto their shoulders and congo-lined around the house for minutes. Which is like 5 hours in congo-line time.
GREEN HILL PARK – Up the street from Distant Castle is a big, beautiful park. Guess why it’s called Green Hill? It’s on top of a giant hill and covered in trees. It feels like a private garden because I never see anybody there. The first hot day of the year I lay naked on a rock for AN HOUR and nobody came by. Also, it’s a very romantic spot. If you meet a babe at a Distant Castle show, ask them to take a walk through the park. Makeout not guaranteed, but your chances will be improved.
GRAM PARSONS – He’s been dead for awhile but I’d definitely let that spirit come inside me. The first time I heard Gram Parsons was spring of this year and I was like “this sucks.” Then I opened my mind and realized he was my soul mate
HONORABLE MENTIONS – Christmas parties, new friends, driving around New England, climbing mountains, a golden pony ring, cowboy boots, so many friends making great music.
Now enjoy this brand new Christmas jingle from Secret Lover, and go visit Worcester already!

That Joe Degeorge Sax Machine show ruled, thanks for reminding me of it. Sweet Article
