REVIEW: Groundhog Day (1993) dir. Harold Ramis

Is it just me or is Groundhog Day the movie more important in American history than the holiday? I think it is! Honestly Bill Murray, playing weatherman Phil Connors (no better name for a meteorologist), who wakes up everyday to his own personal Hell. So. Satisfying. How can you feel bad for Phil when he is such a flaming asshole? And, honestly, who thinks of centering a movie around Groundhog Day. On a side note, early spring this year bitches, babes and buddies!! Screenshot 2016-01-30 18.40.01

We all know this is a classic, we have all seen it. Seeing it once is like seeing it 15 times, this film isn’t exactly known for it’s plot twists and turns. Phil, who shares his name with the famed Punxsutawnee groundhog, relives the same day over and over and over again. He tries crashing his car into a train, electrocuting himself, he indulges in everything and anything. The mystics of Groundhog Day in the end teach him to reevaluate his life and priorities. Hip, hip hooray everything works out OK.

I think this film is particularly relevant today because it has to make one think about some seriously pressing current events. If we believe that a groundhog can determine the weather, why doesn’t everyone believe in climate change?! Regardless, this movie is one that should be on repeat every Feb. 2.
