Pictures #7 by Andy (Amherst) is a trip. A Hieronymus Bosch, The Garden of Earthly Delights (c. 1495-1505) type of trip. The zine consists of 24 black and white full page illustrations filled with symbolism that are an “attempt at using visual language to explore and share many feelings, ideas and concepts.”
The concepts in Pictures #7 include free will, the universe, beingness, technologies, modernism, naturalism, capitalism, and everything else out of our control but seemingly controlling our existence. Each page, like a panel in a triptych painting, portrays the story of how we got here and where we are going to end up. I.E. in a dystopian nothingness unless we unplug, get woke, break those capitalist chains, and find a balance with nature.
Noli timere. They’re just pictures. But they might reveal something about yourself and your views on existence. So when Pictures #7 leaves you in the “liminal zone” depicted on the back cover in a scene where figures are becoming one thing or another in a fluid space with lingering temptations that are dangerous unless ignored, ask yourself how long will you stay here?
ANSWERS MAY SURPRISE YOU. TOP 10 REASONS TO STAY. TOP 5 REASONS TO LOOK UP.
