Meet the Asylum Artists
Explore 40,000sq feet of warehouse known as the Artisan’s Asylum in Somerville. A dedicated 501c3, this space is solely intended to help stimulate and feed the need for knowledge of our artistic community. They promote the teaching and learning of dozens of crafts with too many resources to name here (wood working, bike repair, welding, screen printing…to name a few). Peep the work of talented artists plus check out live demos, play home-made instruments, and even try your hand at welding, woodworking, jewelry-making, and more!
Artisan’s Asylum, 10 Tyler St., Somerville
3/21, 7pm

How Boston Designers Changed the World
This fascinating 35-minute lecture illustrated with historical images and objects demonstrates how Boston-based designers instigated major changes in sustainable transportation, civil rights, apparel, tools, communication, science, filmmaking, military equipment, corporate identity, education, illustration and the preservation of globally significant cultural treasures. Discussion to follow.
MASS Art, Tower Auditorium, 621 Huntington Ave, Boston

Reclaimed Retail: Building Businesses with Reclaimed and Salvaged Materials
!ND!V!DUALS Collective, the guys behind the new ‘Orchard’ store on Newbury, invite you to a short presentation about their history and the design of the new store — which they built in about three weeks’ time! Q&A and cocktail bash to follow. Learn more about these designers/installation artists who build a hell-of-a-lot more than store fronts (ask about their ten-foot-long shark playing guitar!!). Find out how they repurpose wood from 100-year-old homes — reclaiming wood for businesses, galleries and festivals, all while working out of a two car garage!
!ND!V!DUALS Collective
Orchard Skate Shop, 287 Newbury St., Boston
RSVP 3/28, 8-9pm
