GOLEM JAM #3 -SCROOBJAM-

by

Ascendant in intent GOLEM JAM # 3 -SCROOBJAM- triumphs, a suffusion of dream built up of the perfected, the empty bowl, the sky unclouded and blue. In such things we sink until, one by one, every instant written on the last, we engulf in the immaculacy of something plain good.

We learn to persist there, all desire and flame, warmed by touches of invisible breath. Smugglers of our experience, unsure, and filled, inhabited with the chills and fevers of what lives we become the substance of our scrutiny. The precious movements of dawn, how we wear it, distance, the space we are and occupy. All this reveals us there, alive in the sheer lapses of our understanding.

Lead by John F. Quirk, the project is the third in a series of collaborative ventures, called Golem Jams. “In Jewish folklore, a golem is a construct built out of many smaller things, that doesn’t rest until the given task is complete. That’s the idea with a group like this, we are tenacious until the job is done,” explains Quirk. Inspired by local game jams and the work of his peers, Quirk assembled a team of individuals with varying talents and unique styles, each with a different flavor of weirdness to bring to the table.

“Scroobjam” features the work of 21 artists, from the screaming mess of a theme song to the bizarre image of Fred depicted as a “staircase leading to nowhere.” Daphne is often depicted as an inanimate object (in one instance as a tombstone), while Scooby occasionally takes the form of sickly naked man in a collar. “I’ve always been in love with creative experimentation, multimedia artwork, and the absurd; and this project is each of those things in ample measure,” remarks Quirk. The project premiered at MassArt’s All School Show, and was published by CartoonBrew within days of its release online. “I have every intention of continuing to promote collaborative animated projects. Each brilliant person in this collective has something unique to bring to the world of animated storytelling. Please check out each artist’s individual work; they’re all really wonderful,” says Quirk.
