With Halloween days away, now is the perfect time to experience a masterfully stylized terror tale from Germany’s most creative film period. In THE CABINET OF DR.CALIGARI, macabre things are afoot when a traveling carnival passes though a Bavarian village and two friends get tickets to see one of its main attractions. There, the mysterious Dr. Caligari displays the somnambular Cesare, who’s capable of foreseeing the future. When that future contains the death of one of the friends, a dark series of twists and turns are set in motion that concludes in a surprise ending. Created during the golden age of German Expressionism, the film broke narrative ground upon its release through innovative use of story and is widely considered one of the best horror films of the silent era, if not ever. As a special bonus, the award winning ensemble group No-So-Silent Cinema will be providing a live original score throughout the screening to chill your bones.
