7 CHINESE BROTHERS: Larry, an inebriated sad sack, finds himself smitten with the boss of an undiscriminating Quick-Lube, Lupe. Will Larry keep it together long enough to win the girl, provide for his French bulldog (Schwartzman’s real-life dog Arrow), laze about with his friend Major, and do his cantankerous grandmother proud? Written and directed by Bob Byington, “7 Chinese Brothers” is empathetic in tone, dry in humor.

THE PRIMARY INSTINCT: Documentary film. A live recording of actor Stephen Tobolowsky telling stories last year at Seattle’s Auburn Theatre. Tobolowsky has been the “Hey, it’s that guy!” scene stealer in everything from MISSISIPPI BURNING to GROUNDHOG DAY.
