Fun Times at Hassle High: Free Performing Arts Workshop for High School Kids!

by

Starting on March 2nd, Boston Hassle will be implementing The Pearl Learning Laboratory Performance Workshop, a brand new (and entirely free) education initiative open to any and all high school students who want to make something new and awesome and creative and interesting. What that actually ends up being will be determined by the people who show up as we slowly create a full length show that combines as many different interests, talents, and explorations as possible. The workshop will be directed by Peter J. Woods, a local musician, playwright, and performance artist currently serving as one of the Project Zero Artists-in-Residence at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Programming will be guided by cutting edge research into creative education and student agency, providing a wholly unique and intellectually engaging experience.
Through Pearl Learning Laboratory Performance Workshop, students will create their own multi-media performances from scratch in a collaborative environment. These new and innovative creations will incorporate elements of theatre, music, spoken word, dance, and really anything else collaborators want to bring to the table. On top of building artistic ability, everyone involved will also get to exercise their own voice and explore the real world issues they personally care about. All participants will get the opportunity to act as the teacher and the student as we move from exploring other people’s work to putting on our very own show. For more information, please email Peter Woods at [email protected] or fill out the student interest survey at http://goo.gl/forms/3lQDKcPr8n.
