COMPASS KETCHUP: Find & Form Space

by

FIND & FORM SPACE proves that some nine-to-fivers are cool. While the company Find & Form builds mobile and web apps for the digital world, the place where they work is actually located in the South End’s SOWA district, mere steps from a swarm of galleries and artists’ studios. Recognizing the opportunity to utilize this amazing thing they have – a physical space – they became instant contributors to the Boston art scene by turning their workplace into a pop-up contemporary art gallery every first friday of the month joining SOWA’s FIRST FRIDAYS. They also host talks, panel discussions and performances to keep the creative community activated.

Exhibition Director and local artist KEVIN FRANCES is responsible for the primarily local and always interesting programming happening @524 Harrison Ave. The last show was a rough cut screening of artist Marisa Williamson’s short film, HEMINGS IN PARIS, where the artist plays Sally Hemings during a 2 year period spent in Paris with Thomas Jefferson, concurrent with the city’s contemporary black diaspora. The screening was followed by an artist Q&A regarding her personal project.

The idea to utilize spaces during off-hours is exactly the kind of resourceful, low-budget initiatives that not only Enable – both artists and viewers – but could easily happen in spaces all over town. Boston needs to see more of this, so make sure to support the people already doing it!
