(8/1 – 8/30) POSTMORTEM: AN EXAMINATION OF THE MODERN ZOMBIE @COOLIDGE

by

While the zombie craze refuses to die, there’s no denying that it’s contributed some of the scariest, funniest, and most balls-out insane genre films of the past fifty years. Enter the fine folks at the Coolidge, who are serving up tasty 35mm prints of undead masterpieces all August long. First up is Lucio Fulci’s gross-out classic ZOMBIE (8/1 & 8/2), which features the first-ever zombie-vs-shark fight (as well as cinema’s unluckiest eyeball). Next is Danny Boyle’s 28 DAYS LATER… (8/8 & 8/9), which reinvigorated the genre with its track-star ghouls. RE-ANIMATOR (8/15 & 8/16) is an ‘80s “splatstick” comedy classic, which provides a sickeningly literal interpretation of “getting head.” No introduction is necessary for George Romero’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (8/22 & 8/23), the 1968 film that birthed the entire genre. The series closes with SHAUN OF THE DEAD (8/29 & 8/30), Edgar Wright’s zom-rom-com blockbuster. Don’t get bit!
