(7/4 – 7/14) SNOWPIERCER (2013) DIR. BONG JOON-HO @BRATTLE

by

In the mood for a little socially conscience science fiction? Look no further than the Brattle and Coolidge Corner Theatre this week and grab a ticket for a train ride that’s a literal microcosm of the 99% versus the 1%. It’s 2031 and the planet has sunk into a deep freeze following a failed experiment to stop climate change, which tragically/ironically turned the world into one big Antarctica, killing off most life in the process. The few people who survived now live on a train with a perpetual motion engine, perpetually traveling the globe. Consequently, a rigid class system has evolved; the downtrodden poor live at the disgusting tail end while the wealthy elite enjoy the high life near the front of the train. But not for long. The underprivileged have had enough and rebellion is brewing. Making his English language debut, South Korean director Bong Joon-ho guides an international cast that includes Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Go Ah-sung, Jamie Bell, Ewen Bremner, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, and Ed Harris. Buckle up for a A Tale of Two Trains. Also playing at the Coolidge Corner Theatre.
