“Hello, Clarice.” The most famous line that was NOT actually said in Jonathan Demme’s 1991 hit THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. How Anthony Hopkins’ friendly cannibal Hannibal Lecter came to be known for the line is beyond me, but it’s also beyond the point. — cause THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS rules.

The film, based Thomas Harri’s 1988 novel by the same name, is a straight up sterling example of a crime movie done right. Set around the hunt for a serial killer suspected of abducting a Senator’s daughter, the film lays the tension and fear thick and early and never lets up.

The bad guys, Lecter and Ted Levine’s Buffalo Bill, are two of the most chilling killers to ever strut out onto the screen. The good guys, namely Jodie Foster’s Clarice Starling, are flawed, desperate, and endearing. And the relationship between Lecter and Starling — and well, oh man, like I said: THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS rules.
