Opening Reception: Red Dirt Rug by Rena Detrixhe

Fri, Sep 7 2018 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Abigail Ogilvy Gallery

Rena Detrixhe, an artist working and living in Oklahoma, has an interest in the ways humans have impacted our soil. Her area in Oklahoma has been rapidly developed over the past century. In contrast, Detrixhe slows down and pays attention to the natural elements of the landscape. Using red dirt transported from Oklahoma, Detrixhe meticulously ground and sifted the dirt into a fine dust, which she drew patterns into during a performance at Abigail Ogilvy Gallery earlier this month. Detrixhe explores the national implications of the red dirt in Red Dirt Rug – “grit, perseverance, sorrow, pain, spirit, resilience.”
