As Spring approaches, the Winter-borne catatonic state, like the snow in the streets, must be melted away. Here at Boston Hassle, we couldn’t think of a more effective means to this end than to welcome Wendy Eisenberg, Wandering Shade Trio, and Rat Tally to Dorchester Art Project for a challenging, enigmatic, evening of ear-bliss.
Coming through Dorchester’s new creative hub in the midst of a lengthy east coast tour, Eisenberg (formerly of Birthing Hips), will warp even the most adventurous showgoers’ minds with her exploratory, take on free-jazz saturated psychedelia. “The live show always ends up being a surprise that’s in some way contingent on the rest of the acts on the bill”, relayed Eisenberg on her live experience. “I go into each show not knowing what material I’ll be playing and read the evening, so each moment is tailored to the show.” A short-run repress of Eisenberg’s now-sold out Time Machine cassette, as well as a new tape of miscellany, which she describes as “a small split with myself- one side unreleased tracks/tracks written for compilations and heavy solo guitar compositions/improvisations”, will be available at this show.
Wandering Shade, consisting of Ashville folk polymath Sarah Louise, New Haven psych/noise vet Krystina Battalene (Mountain Movers, Colorguard), and Philly songsmith Rosali Middleman (Long Hots), makes their Boston debut at this show. With the synergy of their collective talents, they’re sure to open your ears’ eyes wider than a mountain waft of the morning’s first coffee. Having dropped a collaborative LP of audible Applachian air with duo House and Land last year, Louise will release her debut solo full length, Deeper Woods (Thrill Jockey), on May 11.
Rat Tally rounds out the bill with her thoughtfully wrought acoustic offerings that mix a free-floating calmness with the focused minimalism of reading by candlelight, so tattoo this all-ages show on your calendar STAT!
