The folks over at the Brattle Theatre refuse to grow up, and thank God. For 20 years they’ve been screening Bugs Bunny marathons and to celebrate the double decade milestone the Harvard Square cineastes have hand picked their favorite childrens’ films. The series starts off with a screening of MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO, the heartfelt story of a pair of sisters encountering strange forest creatures from the Walt Disney of Japan, Hayao Miyazaki. Also included are Jim Henson classics THE DARK CRYSTAL and LABYRINTH, starring David Bowie in all his frizzy hairiness and a young Jennifer Connelly, a triple feature of THE MUPPET MOVIE, THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER, and THE MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN, as well as a special centennial celebration of the one of a kind animator John Hubley’s birthday and his work. The series then winds down with PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE and the modern masterpiece WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE.
