From the depths of Baltimore’s DEEP underground music scene, the newest band to have us in a groovy psych rock trance is the mighty HORSE LORDS. They are a super group of top sound sculptures that you should definitely recognize, their dynamic solo, duo, and trio projects (of all different genres) have come through Boston on numerous occasions over the years. Now, we follow all of these individuals pretty closely but ever since we saw them come together to form Horse Lords at Butcher Shoppe a few weeks back (with Guardian Alien) we literally can’t stop thinking about these guys. They wield a groove like few bands do, droning OUT and exploring it to the fullest with wiiiiild saxophone work, fat fuzz bass, two drum kits, and otherwordly guitar riffage. Their first and only release is a limited edition tape (edition of 50) that we were lucky enough to scoop up at their Boston stop. It’s called Mixtape Vol 1 and it truly satisfies the withdrawals of not being able to see this band whenever I want. Do yourself a favor and CHECK IT! And be sure to keep the Boston Hassle boomarked because we will be the first to squeal the next time Horse Lords makes a move anywhere near here.
