STRANGE INSPIRATIONS: THE CINEMATIC ORIGINS OF ‘STRANGER THINGS’
Fri 10/27 – Thu 11/2 @BRATTLE

The ‘80s are back! At least, it seems that way. Between the Netflix originals show STRANGER THINGS and the current box office smash IT, the ‘80s are all the rage again. You know, the good times when kids would ride down steep hills with their metal bikes? When creatures haunted the night and kids with a sense of no control went looking for said creatures? Okay, maybe only a handful of these movies apply to that description, but nevertheless, the STRANGE INSPIRATIONS series, nicely packaged by the good people at Brattle, will be a great retrospective into the films that inspired this new craze. From the kids doing crazy things for the sake of adventure in E.T, THE GOONIES, and STAND BY ME, to killer aliens preying on the flesh of humans with a double feature of ALIEN and THE THING, what more could you ask for? This series has everything, even rarities like PRINCE OF DARKNESS, SCANNERS, and EXPLORERS! Every film (with the exception of FIRESTARTER, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, and E.T.) are in 35mm, so make your way to the Brattle to celebrate Halloween with the ultimate collection of STRANGER THINGS inspirations!
