Grrl Haus Cinema is a program that provides a platform for women filmmakers and video artists. They represent a mix of local, national, and international women who create in a variety of disciplines and genres, with the sole medium being video, cinema.
Although beginning as an annual event at Brattle Theatre, Grrl Haus Cinema is now an international concern, showcasing work at theaters and pop-ups across the country and abroad. The Brattle event includes musical performances, video art installations, and local Boston vendors.
With a focus on DIY, experimental, and low-budget works, there is an atmosphere that is reminiscent of French New Wave or punk rock. Likewise, Grrl Haus Cinema showcases underrepresented voices in an industry typically dominated by men and marketability. At a Grrl Haus Cinema event, anything is possible and anything can happen, as they break down the traditional boundaries of filmmaking.
