Unorthodox and ripping is how this first 7″ from BIG ZIT of Hammond, Indiana arrives. 5 songs, only one crossing the minute threshold. I don’t know what’s going on over in Northwest Indiana, but it’s probably fucked up (see BIG ZIT peers OOZE and CONEHEADS for further proof). BAD BRAINS vibes in the vocals can’t be denied, but who would want to? And really, BZ’s singer man is doing his own special mouth full of marbles thing and it is pretty shrieking amazing. The 7″ comes courtesy of NOT NORMAL RECORDS who you will find are doing good scuzzy work on the regular. The BIG ZIT 7″ that they’ve put out is called ELECTRIC ZIT VOL. 1, and it is raw like you want it to be, and it is over in a heartbeat. Get ready to flip that record, or better yet to see this band in the live setting, where the real action surely is. Come to Boston BIG ZIT. There is a rock n roll thing happening in some of the guitar parts that is really strange (and great) to hear in a hardcore context. Feeling this on “Big Zit”, and the winner of the lot, “Goin’ Blind”. Damn. “Goin’ Blind” has got that riff. It’s like the guitarist is shoving his guitar neck straight into the ear of MY EYE. Band is right on, bass and drums locked in. 7″ comes in the wake of a similarly brain throttling demo tape(check Dean A’s writeup here) that the band self released last year. Aural puke. If that’s your thing, then this is your thing. Also, this recording sounds amazing. Couldn’t find a single damn stream of any kind for this thing so I’m stooping to linking to a DL of the 7″. Don’t be a scumbag, go buy it if you like it.
