MAGIK MARKERS have been breeders of various noise rock-ian, and other (post-punk, psych) rock-type concoctions for almost a decade at this point. Having begun in Hartford, and undergone the usual line up changes over such a span of time, the band’s members are now spread out a little bit with 2/3 of the band found somewhere in the wonderful Western MA free zone. SURRENDER TO THE FANTASY is a new album, and the reason we are checking in. Superior, and graceful aged rock label DRAG CITY are responsible for this first album from these blasters in 4 years (the last was BALF QUARRY, also on DRAG CITY). The first we’re hearing from this new record (partially recorded in J Mascis’ attic) is the song “Mirrorless” which you will find below in video form. And this is a gentle, meandering vibe rocker, with kitchen sink percussion pinning down a lovely guitar line and the tentative vocal melody sung by Elisa Ambrogio, the band’s singer and songwriter (and in this case video director). A far cry from days of MM past, but a new trip and with the evidence that we have thus far, a good one at that. MAGIK MARKERS! Know this.
