THE CRATERS

Another bite size nugget of infectious, dreamy guitar pop from Jamaica Plain’s THE CRATERS. Main man Wes sent us a track a while back that we were all over, and once again with this new track “College Town” we feel similarly.  Having been following THE CRATERS musical experiments for some time it is amazing to see what the project has become. From roots in very quirky early 90s bedroom indie rock/pop, on through forays into more straight up electro pop, the project has settled into a comfortable sounding, but still quite interesting take on pop that bears the marks and scars of its previous incarnations, and is in a better place for it. I’m not privy to the lyrics but I do know that Wes is a native Boston area guy, so I think we can guess what college town he’s laying down these great melodies about. The guitar playing is fantastic, and the textural electronic foundation of the song sounds amazing, giving this jangly guitar song a wonky, dubby depth that really opens it up. I was actually going to write about this jam a few days ago, but forgot. I hadn’t really been thinking about it since, but then the chorus melody appeared in my head this morning and I knew what I must do. Wes also plays in AYKROYD and a brand new band THE CHANNELS whose first show ever you can catch tonight over in JP @ Neverland.
