(12/25) THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (2013) DIR. MARTIN SCORSESE @COOLIDGE

by

Merry Christmas! After unpacking those presents, celebrate the holiday with a cinematic rumination on the dark side of capitalism as envisioned by a Mr. Martin Scorsese and starring a guy who died on the Titanic. Essentially a rags to riches story, Jordan Belfort (DiCaprio) is a broke man who wants it all, aided along the way by his BFF Donnie (Jonah Hill). Humbly beginning as a man looking to pay his bills, Belfort transforms himself into arguably the most successful stockbroker in the country. But, as the cash flows in, the scruples get thrown out as sex, mafiosis, and federal agents all become entangled in Belfort’s shenanigans. Eventually, what’s left is a highly illegal enterprise that could crush Belfort in every way possible and leaves the audience with an outrageous, sardonic comedy about reaching one’s dreams.
