The Human Garden | Performance

Fri, May 18 2018 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

HUMAN GARDEN is a multimedia installation and performance by Lani Asuncion at Spaceus MIT designX project that is currently based in Faneuil Hall.

Spaceus
1 South Market Street, #2135
Boston, MA 02109 [MAP]

Friday, May 18 @ 8- 10 PM

This performance is part of a larger body of work LANDMARK a multimedia project http://www.laniasuncion.com/landmark/ .
The project focuses on how commercial development causes disconnect from nature, in turn, causing isolation and alienation with each other. Urban development and tampering also have caused a decline in native New England flora. I am interested in how can we become more connected to the plant life around us, not just by looking, but listening. What are they trying to say? Do they have a story to tell us that we cannot hear because our busy lifestyles do not allow it?

Asuncion will be using a MIDI Biodata Sonification Device to measure the biofeedback from native New England plants mixed through an analog modulator synth. For this project, Sean Saman has composed an original score which is woven through the piece.

The performance will be the first action of this project to take place in the Spaceus creative space and will be followed by a public interactive installation in June TBA.
