First up, Boston’s the Piff is reminiscent of soft, tender lullaby, a drift of sound running in the state of somewhere, almost reaching the realm of dreaminess. Competent uses of what-the-fuck-ism further guarantees their place as a promising act in the near future.
Happy You cites Neil Young as an influence, yet the mood is very far off from that. Energitic and ragged garage meltdown opens the way for somber whispering, the horns fanfare opens out of no where, playing the tones that fly off. Yet be careful, for they aren’t shy to toy with the atonal now and then. Mike Simonelli utilizes a wide array of sounds in his arsenal to release his angst, a self-constructed world like a never-ending carnival, painted by his fascination for folk and hip hop. Soft Pyramids continue the emotional ride, with their sharp brand of pop-punk anthems. Solid State Entity exists in the absolute opposite end of the weirdo spectrum. It begins with beats that lurk in the dark, that creeps out to evolve into the something frighteningly danceable. A potpourri of beautiful monsters indeed.
