Self portraiture isn’t new but with the advent of smart phones #selfies have allowed the general population to become self appointed photographers. These eleven artists Stephen Sheffield, Alicia Savage, Alexa Torre, Bill Franson, Agnieszka Sosnowska, Laura Knapp, Greg Norstrom, Cori DiPietro, Jenna Stebbins, Orianna Reardon, and Meredith Abenaim. are tackling the wide array of what they each consider to be fully formed self-portraits. Using color and black and white, digital and film, each piece of work carries the individual artist while becoming a part of the larger conversation of contemporary photography and portraiture. By coming to the show, perhaps the viewer can take inspiration to create their own series of self portraits, or be content with the daily #selfie post on instagram. Show will be on view through March 11th at Panopticon Gallery.
