Science by the pint – The (antibiotic) resistance movement

Thu, Dec 7 2017 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

From the event page:

Dr. Hanage is interested in how bacteria evolve, and the ways in which we can use modern methods in genomics and computing to track their spread and adaptation. These adaptations have led to increasing rates of drug resistance, which some have described in apocalyptic terms. Are we headed back to the pre-antibiotic era? How do bacteria manage to shrug off our best efforts to control them? And what new therapies might be on the horizon?

Science by the Pint is a free science café in which we invite a Boston-area research lab out to a pub or brewery to chat science over a cold one. Our speaker will give a brief overview of her/his research and answer audience questions. After that, the rest of the lab (grad students, postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, etc.) will rotate around the tables to have small-group, informal conversations about what they’re working on. The events are geared toward a general audience – all are welcome and no experience is necessary!
