Have you ever wondered what it would sound like if the Velvet Underground and The Talking Heads had a baby? And then that baby grew up to redefine (post) post-punk?! Well look no further than Canadian quartet Ought. These indie darlings have come a long way since their first EP back in 2012 and after last year’s critically acclaimed LP More than Any Other Day landed on almost everyone’s year end list, the band has garnered a lot of well-deserved attention. Abandoning standard structures and crafting dark, sweeping compositions with deep, often spoken lyrics Ought defies categorization. Also on the bill are Exploding in Sound’s heavy alt rockers LVL UP and the pop leaning indie punk of Diet Cig (love their name). Great Scott is a perfect venue for a show of this size and now that Ought has released their second full length album, don’t expect to continue seeing them in such intimate spaces in the future. Be there folks, it’s a shindig you don’t wanna say you missed.
