Mountainess, Sam Talmadge, Big Fuzzy

Fri, Mar 1 2019 7:00 pm

Big Fuzzy is the Boston-based duo of guitarist Max Kennedy and singer Anneke Reich. Full of unexpected turns, their songs integrate elements of jazz, folk, classical and pop music to create a unique and mesmerizing harmonic landscape and lyrical sensibility.

Mountainess is the cinematic and deeply lyrical creation of Providence-based musician Emily Goldstein. A confessional poet, a peeling bell, a rain cloud, a haunted house—no matter what you hear, Mountainess holds her ground and rarely says sorry. A project born out of a desire to convey sincerity, Mountainess aims to be present and up close.

Sam Talmadge is a songwriter, fingerpicker, and composer/arranger based in Brooklyn, NY. Drawing from the guitar styles of John Hurt and Elizabeth Cotten, the compositional rigor of L.V. Beethoven, and the lyricism and narrative of a long list of writers, Sam has fused these influences together into a new kind of song; compact, sincere, and at times, funny. The subject matter in Sam’s songwriting ranges from unrequited love to fairy tales of climate change denial to the intricacies of sleep deprivation. Sam also performs solo fingerpicking/ragtime guitar, playing the music of Gary Davis, Elizabeth Cotten, Blind Blake and others as well as arranging and performing well known rags by Scott Joplin. In addition to writing and performing solo in the North-East, Sam is a co-founder of the Boston based folk-quartet Ruthless Moon and lead guitarist in the new rock band, DOGART.
