Hot off a new record (dropping this very month on Northern Spy) Larkin Grimm comes to town from NYC this Sunday night to delight and cast wonder upon all in attendance. This is an experimental soul exploration expedition and, along with her fellow tour guides, she will show you the path to the light to light the path to wherever you would like to go, choose your own adventure. In direct support is North Shore based singer Aisha Burns who coopted our hearts last year at CityPop and was kind enough to give them back at the end of her set. Like Larkin, Aishas music is a powerful fire despite being constructed with tender embers, really a theme for the night. Similarly Gold Dime (latest project from Andrya of Talk Normal) brings together unconventional and downright challenging parts to construct gripping and somehow accessible movements. They themselves have a new record to tout (via Fire Walk). It is hard rock but it is hardly rock, if that makes any sense. This band is hard to put into a category but they certainly fit in on this freakfolk, strange-singer/songwriter showcase as it were. Setting the table this evening is area arts activist, muralist and true muse Solei who, when she is not making loop-based minimal soul and experimental soundscapes, is organizing shows for various communities in the Greater Boston area. A show of true, blue beautiful doers with no shoes. *Studio 550 is a shoes-off space so please wear your cutest socks and odor-eaters if you must!
