With a deep knowledge of both classic 90s tracks and modern selections, Akua has proved she’s not afraid to redefine techno on her own terms. The Ghanaian-American DJ has cultivated a sound that reflects her passion for research and recontextualization, infusing old-school tracks and techniques with a vision of future dancefloors. A Discwoman affiliate, she organizes events and regularly graces the decks at NYC haunts Bossa Nova Civic Club and Nowadays. She’s also taken her sound to packed dance floors in cities across North America, and in 2019 hopped across the pond to present her hyper-charged selections to European crowds with debuts on Boiler Room Utrecht, plus shows at Saule and De School. Her mixes have received praise from Resident Advisor and Crack Magazine, and she recently was tapped to do a summer residency on Rinse FM. This is her first set in Boston in over a year, and we can’t wait to hear what she has in store for us.

Aura T-09 (Dublab, Hyped On Experience, LOS ANGELES)

Though originally known best in LA as a graphic designer and event organizer, Aura T-09 (Marci Pinna) has really picked up speed DJ’ing the past few years, running a consistently excellent radio show on Dublab and playing various style sets throughout the city. Her LA parties are well known for bringing together a wide array of experimental and dance music sounds: from techno, electro and regional club music variants, through to more experimental styles like breakcore, speedcore and IDM. This variety can be often heard in her DJ sets, which run the gamut between those styles and often weave seemingly disparate styles together in a fluid and dancefloor-focused manner.

Final Object (Emma) is well known throughout Boston for her incredible techno live PAs. However, it was her summer 2019 mix (“Humanize Something Free Of Error”) which caught us by surprise. This dj mix brought together expertly selected tunes across a wide range of styles: Deep Detroit Techno, Kuduro, Industrial Hardcore, Oldskool Jungle, and Experimental Club to name a few. It showed an exquisite ear for challenging yet still dancefloor-ready sounds, well beyond the purview of the average Boston DJ. Luckily for us, Final Object has agreed to channel some of these styles into a special DJ set for the night.
