About the Festival
The inaugural Local Behavior Music Festival will bring together a thrilling lineup of womxn and non-binary artists for a day of music and performance across two stages on October 28, 2018 at City Winery Boston. The October 28 festival is highlighted by performances by established acts alongside up-and-coming talent. Established acts like “folk rock goddess” (The New Yorker) Catie Curtis will anchor the evening. Catie and has been a “perennially popular headliner, appearing at Lilith Fair, Carnegie Hall, performing arts centers, concert halls, folk clubs, music festivals and the White House”. Boston’s own Dutch ReBelle will perform a special guest set. Other highlights include rising star Billy Dean Thomas, folk songwriter favorite Hayley Sabella, the “virtuosic” (New York Times) Elizabeth and the Catapult, and award-winning — and virally popular — poet Olivia Gatwood. A collaboration with Boston’s youth music nonprofit ZUMIX will bring Rehanna Fernandes Nunez to the stage, along with other young emerging acts Jackie Giroux and Avanti Nagral. About Local Behavior
The mission of Local Behavior is to strengthen pathways to mentorship for emerging womxn and nonbinary artists, connect them across genres, and create new, inclusive performance spaces and opportunities. We do this in two ways: our year-round programming, and our annual festival. Throughout the year, we connect emerging musicians of all ages with more established artists for mentoring conversations and collaboration opportunities, highlighted by quarterly events. We also connect young womxn artists to one another, helping them find a support system as they learn to navigate through the music industry. Once a year, we hold Local Behavior Music Festival, a high-energy festival of womxn and nonbinary artists. The festival is multi-genre and features well-established artists on the same stages as promising emerging acts.
Local Behavior seeks to foster an environment of respect and ever-increasing opportunity for womxn artists, starting on the local level. We believe that though one festival can’t change everything, by changing our Local Behavior, we can make a positive impact that reverberates throughout the music industry. This is our local behavior.
