Dinnersss — “Mise En Place”

by

The image in Dinnersss’ SoundCloud profile features some synth parts on a worn wood floor. Surrounding the parts are bowls of fruit. The name Dinnersss also hints towards an interest with foods. But if “Mise en Place” were to soundtrack an actual meal it would be best suited to a dark dinner party in the bottom of a throbbing nightclub on some Star Wars planet. The composition revolves around a pulsating bass synth that morphs slowly over time. It throbs at the beginning of the track and becomes punchier as the track moves on. Other synth sounds are layered on top. First there is a simple echoic melody that repeats over and over. More ethereal sounds come next, waves of noise that sound like metal in a liquid form. Some punchy drum sounds appear here and there. Ultimately the track is consistently dark and enticing, and while it meditates on repetitive grooves, the elements change and flow often enough to keep things exciting.  In the description underneath the track, Dinnersss writes “‘Mise en Place’” is my first “full-length album” as Dinnersss—28 unique 1-track live takes of mostly modular synth on 1-sided, lathe-cut 8” records. This is #1 of 28 records to be released May 2015.” We should be hearing more from Dinersss soon then, and be excited for what will come next.
