LISTEN TO: KITCHEN’S FLOOR / GO TO: 9/3 Kitchen’s Floor/ Reports(record release)/ Fat History Month @ PAs Lounge

by

Noisy, messy, generally blunt power pop here, in the vein of how Nirvana seemed to look at power pop, meaning via Mudhoney and the Wipers’ crustified filters. Stateside, Homeblitz, among others, is working in this territory. No doubt Australian precursors like Rejex and Skunks play into the mix as well(these 3 guys come from Brisbane). But this isn’t just power pop rehash. These guys have clearly heard some of the noisier indie rock that the last couple of decades have given us (in some ways like local label mates FAT HISTORY MONTH) and they know how to use what they’ve heard. KITCHEN’S FLOOR have gone way poppier since their last record, LONELINESS IS A DIRTY MATTRESS. Their new record is out on BEDROOM SUCK & SILTBREEZE. It’s called LOOK FORWARD TO NOTHING but that sentiment only partially pervades the record’s content. The hooks and poppiness of the melodies just cannot be subdued this time around. “Orbit” slinks along driven by a sweet, wandering, noisy riff and beaten down vocals. “116” is nearly jangle pop with a clearly defined chorus hook, and almost pop guitar interlude. “Needs” is a simple awesome riff paired with a driving beat. So perfect. You should all make sure this awesome band feels welcome when they play with wonderful locals Reports and their aforementioned labelmates Fat History Month THIS saturday!!
