From Sacramento, and harnessing a dangerous place between outright noisiness and verifiable dance jams, Buk Buk Bigups is definitely making some cool music. Apparently born of the punk and experimental scenes out there this one man crew brings together and swallows down all kinds of different dance musics and spits back up a real messy dance party. There’s techno keyboard bits, italo-disco sounds and rhythms, kraut style droning super grooves, and definite funk and post-punk influence. I would love to see this guy live as I’m sure the beat never stops, but that said Buk Buk Bigups still definitely tilts further toward dance music than any sort of noise. This of course hits it’s stride hardest when the groove gets locked in and the noise does not overtake the beat. Lots of beat destruction and reconstruction going down, the stray wild out on guitar, some glitching, and some very lovely synth melodies from time to time. Best party mining the same region as locals like Turtle Amulance, Many Mansions, Truman Peyote, and Ming Ming . 12″ out on Weird Forest, and an even better full length, “Big Big Fuckups”, that you can listen to on their bandcamp.
