JULY COMPASS – Notes From The Crew

Nothing like shouting into the beautiful void of print media. What’s up Boston underground? My name’s Sophia and I’m the programming intern at Brain Arts. I book shows! It’s my jam, my peanut butter, all the condiments that come to mind. This issue of the Compass means it’s July, and goddamn there’s a lot to look forward to. Shark week, for instance. …pation. Here’s something like everything bagel seasoning, in that you didn’t know it was necessary until it was right it front of you: an Avant Beer Garden at Zone3 in Allston on the fourth. What’s that? Free beer and local music? Yeah, you heard right. We’ve got a stacked calendar of smaller DIY gigs around the Boston area, too. Høunds and Supplement kick off this month’s hassle shows on the 3rd. A week later there’s an 8bit dream of a show featuring Primpce (New Orleans); the debut of Wendy Eisenberg’s new band, Ditch Factor; and a sonic whirlwind of shows the whole month long. Take a gander at the calendar within… and get to the gig!

Over at our sliver of Fields Corner, Dorchester Art Project, there’s always magic a-brewing. To name a few spellbinding events, you can expect a queer/trans drawing class, Sub Rosa collective inhabiting studio 13—and, of course, our gallery’s shrine show. Altarations opens on the 21st, and we beyond thrilled to showcase projects crafted 6y 54 local artists. Mosey on over to bask in the light of these shrines, to see a gig or just to hang out. See you there—and until then, don’t listen too hard.  peace
