George Clanton – 100% Electronica

Waves, by their very nature, are fleeting. Anxious with movement until dissipation. So goes the once beloved (albeit with a smirk at times) vaporwave and chillwave micro-genres. The “end” is often a black hole that engulfs all. The exceptions are out there.

George Clanton is one. He built an impressive following on two fronts: as a synthpop outfit under the moniker Mirror Kisses while later delving into the vaporwave scene as ESPRIT 空想.

100% Electronica fuses these two endeavors into a cohesive whole under his own name. One can also sense an appreciation of the rich textures found in shoegaze that he explored with an earlier project, Kid’s Garden. The result has promise to ripple on and on.

With a pop sensibility that leans toward the dramatic, his self-aware lyrics make it wholly relatable.

The album spans the gamut from the slow burning, fist pumper “Bleed” to the more tender “Wonder Gently” and “Keep a Secret.” By no means, are these tracks outliers.

As a whole, it is a guilt-free pop experience that showcases a dedicated, hard-working musician’s continual exploration of EDM’s emotional limits.
