Tinderbox Series
The curatorial focus of the Tinderbox Series is on presenting a stimulating, creative and diverse series of experimental work including but not limited to performance art, film, video, new music, sound art, movement, collaborative and interdisciplinary work.

“+\-” Elaine Thap
Caught between a situation and antithesis, “+\-” is a piece dealing with direct and indirect action. Figuratively and literally, participants will experience a shock. Weaving personal tales and interaction, Elaine Thap will delegate the audience in conversation and banal action.

Chuck Chaney
Selecting from available objects, primarily organic in nature, I will work with them to extract there essence and any memory this recalls. Ultimately sharing my experience and interacting with select audience members.

Ari Frankel

inErnest

July 2014, digital video projection, stereo, duration 6:12. Boston premiere.

Some of my 12 Djerassi Resident Artist fellows accused me this past July of “going morbid” with inErnest. Yes, author Hemingway [1899-1961] and Carl Djerassi’s painter daughter Pamela [1950-1978], I discovered, did kill themselves on similar, early July days, albeit years apart. But their death was not at all what was of interest to me; it was their life, their work, their habits. After re-reading Hemingway, then being “thrown into” Djerassi’s open ranch, right next to Neil Young’s, this Video Music Composition formed. Original video, sound and music play sandwiched between unexpected edits from Luis Buñuel’s La Chien Andalou. Professor Djerassi just died January 30, age 91. This projection is dedicated to him.

Jasmin Schaitl and William “Bilwa” Costa
In July 2013, Jasmin Schaitl and William “Bilwa” Costa began a collaborative duo in Vienna and Berlin. Since then they have performed, led workshops, and have been artists in residence throughout Europe, and UK. Their work is a continuous process of: practice, assessment, reflection, accumulation, and reduction. Their goal is to reduce, minimize, and find the essence of each action.

This performance is made possible with the kind support of Bundeskanzleramt Österreich.
