It’s been a long, strange trip for fans of weirdly specific body horror. In 2008, we passed through the screaming maw of a steadfastly unpleasant film called The Human Centipede (First Sequence). Two years later, we were inexorably forced through a sequel, entitled The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence). Now, at long last, we are deposited from the business end of the trilogy, the ominously named The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence). Who’s hungry?
For those with the stomach to weather this infamous trilogy (and the tortured metaphor above—which the author deeply apologizes for), this threequel offers an embarrassment of riches, as both First Sequence star Dieter Laser and Full Sequence breakout Laurence R. Harvey return to the fold. Not that they’ll be playing the same characters, mind you—the Human Centipede franchise is weirdly byzantine, with each film playing a central role in its successor. Also joining the fray are porn star/Sheen-goddess Bree Olson, Academy Award nominee/talking cat Eric Roberts, and—gulp—a five hundred person centipede. If that sounds like a lot to swallow (sorry), you can watch this spot for my full, forthcoming review. It might not be pretty, but I’m willing to take the risk in the line of duty (again, sorry).
