Tonight Mobius hosts a serious conclave for some of the Boston area’s most notoriously recidivist avant-experimental musicians. Violinist Morgan Evans-Weiler, he of the keening freight-train sound, will perform his composition “Automatic Music,” assisted by fellow Deleuzer member and veteran improv saxophonist Steve Norton. He may have additional help there, as the rest of the Deleuzer gang are scheduled to be on hand this evening: Reed-man Howard Martin, laptopist Chris Johnson, Michael Rosenstein and his discrete, homemade electroacoustic instruments, and Jesse Kenas-Collins, whose poker-faced sonic test-runs incorporate feedback, live tape manipulations, speaker heads used as percussive jumping-bean meta-instruments, and the occasional abuse of a soprano sax—an inventive, fun take on 21st-century HVAC-imitative music. KC to the AC! If this doesn’t sound like your usual night out, test your mental toughness and open-mindedness by making it through the whole event. It’s not leather-jacket / roofing-in-winter tough—we’re talking sky-cell-from-GOT tough. We dare you.
