Vela Phelan’s third performance in his series Obscurus Fidem will consist of Phelan walking the streets of Boston carrying the statue of Malverde. “Faith is heavy; it can weigh us down; but onward we go, carrying the weight.”
Vela Phelan is a Boston based performance artist. He recently won the James and Audrey Foster Prize at the ICA for his series Obscurus Fidem where he venerates the Mexican folk hero Malverde, also known as the narco saint. His series consists of nine live performances at the ICA and in Boston, which investigate our relationship to faith, materialism, and technology. He asks questions such as “What are the dimensions of God?”
