Friends, this is a hell of a weekend to be living in New England as a fan of guitar music. Extra points if you live in the fair city of Providence (Part 2 of 2!)
Sunday night in one of the finest little cities in the world. Art. Skyline. Water. Fire? A torch being passed. All of this and more when you come out to the Columbus Theatre to catch Michael Chapman and Ryley Walker together, “on Broadway,” so to speak. Chapman is to the folk/jazz scene as Obi Wan is to the Force – a source of wisdom, experience, and badassness, who has been recording albums regularly for nearly fifty years. Ryley’s own accolades include a tour schedule that would make a lesser artist shrink back into a dark corner and sob; armed with an acoustic guitar and an endless supply of cheap brew, Ryley simply calls for more. Rounding out this fine bill is guitarist Ian O’Neil of local favorites Deer Tick. Providence is where it’s going down, my favorites. Be wise. Be there.
